Properties of aluminium

To prevent corrosion of the aluminium, direct contact with copper, lead, zinc, steel, chemicals, plant food, etc. should be avoided. This can be done for example by separating the aluminium using a protective foil.

The expansion coefficient of aluminium is 28.8. 10-6/ºC, which at a temperature difference of 50ºC means linear expansion of ±1 mm per metre profile. When installing on the outside of a building, clearance of at least 3 mm per side should be taken into account because of large linear expansion due to sunlight or the colour of the aluminium. Aluminium profiles should be stored in a dry environment and supported to prevent undesirable deformation and/or visual imperfections.
